Dawn Redwoods - May 2007 |
Thanks to Tam for these photographs of three Dawn Redwoods in Edinburgh Royal Botanical Gardens. Tam wrote he "was visiting relations in Edinburgh today and went for a walk through the Royal Botanical Garden. Some wonderful trees are there including 3 Dawn redwoods I found next to the glass house, in the foreground there is a spectacular fossilised tree. It is a great place to visit and I kept my eyes on the skyline for any sequoias, could not see any, too big an area for a short visit, but I was happy to find a Japanese Red cedar planted in 1968." |
The above three pictures show the Japanese Red cedar, a nice view, and a Cedar. Although this is primarily a web site for Redwoods, there is always room for pictures of other trees. |
Giant Redwoods | Coast Redwood |
Thanks to Tim for sending these photographs of Giants and a Coast Redwoods in Edinburgh Royal Botanical Gardens, taken on a visit on 2004. Tim wrote "the images show a nice group of large giant redwoods and there was also a single big
coast redwood (there might be more of them)." I understand how Tam missed these, it is difficult to scour a large area on a short visit. |
Coast Redwood - June 2007 | Young Coast Redwood - June 2007 |
On a re-visit in June 2007, Tam found the other trees and took some more photographs and measurements. He wrote "The photos show two nice Coast Redwoods which really are overgrown at the base and rather untidy but I suppose it seems that is one of the distinguishing features of Coast Redwood. The other photo shows another nice young one which was nearby, so including the one Tim previously found that makes 4 four of them. The one Tim found is 2m in circumference and approximately 20m tall." | |
Giant Redwoods - June 2007 | "The Giant Sequoia grove Tim found in the Botanics is very impressive and the trees well manicured, all six of them having had all the lower branches lopped off. The biggest of the six trees is 3m in circumference and they are all approx 25m tall. There is also one other young Sequoia nearby." Thanks Tam, it is good to have measurements and an update on the trees, they are still looking good three years after Tim's pictures. |
