Thanks to Iain who wrote in March 2024 to say; "I live in Midlothian, Scotland and walk in Arniston Estate almost every day for the past 3 years. For some time I have convinced myself that there are sequoias there, certainly many redwoods, spongy bark and flared trunks, all quite tall and I imagine the estate planted them in the mid 1800s. On one day I tried to count them (it is a large estate) and got to 50+ but most were from a distance. I flip/flopped over which type they were and am no expert, but I have visited Sequoia National Park a few times, last time in November there – one of my favourite places. It's an estate mainly used by locals for walking, it's not an obvious place to visit apart from the estate house." Yes, they are definitely Giant Redwoods aka Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum). A fabulous place to walk I would imagine. |
