Giant Redwoods - November 2014

Damon took a fantastic photograph of the Giant Redwood trees opposite Lael Forest Garden in early October and he says of the tallest that "it's looking a bit stag-headed." Let's hope it throws up a new leader very soon.

Giant Redwood - June 2007
Tam found these Giants opposite Lael Forest Garden near Ullapool. He wrote "This is the tallest Sequoia I have found in my travels. Again it is at Lael, Wester Ross, this time 350 metres west of the forest garden. I did some rudimentary measuring on height and paced it out at approx 50 metres tall and it is 7m in girth. As you can see from the photos it towers over the other sequoia next to it.

The first day I visited it was rainy and dull, these photo's were taken viewing the tall tree on the right side, if you see the car on the bottom left it gives some perspective. In the first photo it was impossible to get it all in and I had to walk back up the hill to get a better photo. The second visit was on a sunny morning and the tall tree appears on the left, it does not appear so tall from this angle. Another photo taken from the entrance to Leal Forest Garden 350 metres to the east shows it from a distance towering above its surroundings."

Tam, all I can say is "wow" and thank you.
