Tam found this substantial tree whilst trying to see one at Castle Leod. He wrote; "I was on my way to try to get a view of a Giant Sequoia which is on record as being 52 metres tall with a girth of 8.9m. Unfortunately it is in the grounds of Castle Leod Strathpeffer in the Highlands which is the home of the Earl of Cromarty the Chief of Clan MacKenzie. Access to the grounds is restricted to a very few days a year. That aside one bonus was that on the way through the village of Strathpeffer there is a lovely example of a Sequoia in the main street it is 6.40 metres in girth." Thanks for this Tam, it was a shame you could not go into the castle grounds, but by finding this tree the journey was not wasted. |
