Thanks to Stewart for the above photograph of a Giant Sequoia (Giant Redwood / Wellingtonia) in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. He says, "There are some monsterous trees in the picturesque Rylestone Gardens, particularly a few pine trees. I was on the lookout for Redwoods and saw three or four trees which looked like them, so I went over to investigate and as soon as I tested the thick, spongy bark and found cones on the floor, which matched the other Redwoods I have found in the past, I knew I had found more. Not the biggest I have seen and unusually, they were not out in the open, but surrounded by other trees and bushes making the photograph less impressive. Still, Redwoods are ALWAYS impressive as far as I am concerned, and finding them so close to the sea (a couple of hundred yards) was a surprise.

Congratulations for finding the first Redwoods on the Isle of Wight!
