Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens)
This tree was planted on 1st April 2013 to celebrate
170 years of Blackgang Chine and 50 years of the
Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
At the time of the dinosaurs the West Wight was a
floodplain and trees like this were common. During
storms, trees washed into the floodplain and these
can still be found today, preserved as fossils. |
