Giant Redwood - June 2022 |
Thanks to Michael who sent the above photograph of a Giant Redwood in Carlton Road, Rugby. He wrote "I think it’s the tallest tree in Rugby. I estimate it is approx 30m tall based on the height of the houses (7.4m) in the road. No idea about why it could’ve ended up where it is. The houses were built in the late 60s / early 70s. There is another one nearby in Selborne Road but I don’t think it is quite as tall." A magnificent tree, and from its size it's very likely to have been planted in Victorian times. It's possible that there was a large manor house or farmhouse on the land prior to the current houses, if so that would be a likely explanation for its presence. I notice that it has two leaders at the top few metres or so, possibly the result of storm damage some years ago breaking the growing tip. |
