Great Notley - off London Road (Essex)

It is good to see that, for all the scorn they often receive, town planners can make good decisions. Dotted around a cluster of new streets (Coniston Close/Derwent Way/Thirlmere) they have left in place three Giant Redwood trees that were probably once part of a larger estate. These fine, but not especially outstanding examples of Wellingtonia, do have one rather curious feature. One of the trees has a small branch and bushy foliage sprouting from the trunk just a couple of feet from the ground.
