The Giant Redwood at Saling Hall Gardens is less than thirty years old, planted by the present owners, Mr and Mrs Johnson. It is an example of a tree which is a little crowded in terms of seeing it at its fullest potential. Nevertheless, it is still a very nice conical shape, very typically of a young wellingtonia.

The previous gardener, for thirty years, was Isabel Carlyle (1875 - 1976) who was the daughter of James Baron of Farndreg House, Dundalk, Ireland - an eminent engineer who contributed to the construction of the railways in the period up to the 19th century.
