Giant Redwood - May 2007
Another Redwood find for Tam in Castlemilk near Glasgow. He says "I have found another Giant Sequoia in a place called the Bluebell Woods. This is an area of woodland that my father tells me he and his mates used to play in over 60 years ago. It is amazing to think that this tree may have been half it's size back then. These woods are part of the estate that belonged to Castlemilk House. No doubt this tree was planted at the same time as the Buchanan Lodge ones. Sad to say it has been vandalised (see photo) I am not sure how recent the damage is (the cut is no more than 6") but I imagine the tree will be OK. If they can cope with lightning damage then a few local vandals won't beat this magnificent giant. It towers over its surroundings and has a wonderful view over Glasgow all the way to the Campsie Fells on the north of the city."
It is a great shame to see the damage done by the vandals. Vandalism is a scourge of the times, I have seen many saplings snapped in this area shortly after the council have planted them.

Giant Redwood - March 2008
Thanks again Tam who wrote to say that he "found another Giant Sequoia in the Castlemilk-Bluebell Woods. Again it's hard to believe I could have missed it, but with the leaves still off the trees I spotted it not too far off from the other one."
