Douglas - Ayr Road (Lanarkshire)

Giant Redwood - August2008

Tam sent the above photograph of a Giant Redwood in Douglas. He says; "I came across this lovely Sequoia on a visit to 14th century St Bryde's Kirk in Douglas, which is the mausoleum of the 'Black Douglas' Earls of Douglas. After visiting the Kirk I got talking with a local man who took me on a tour of the area. It appears the land around the village is owned by the Douglas and Angus family of whom Sir Alec Douglas-Home was a member. This tree is one of three in the grounds of 41 Ayr Rd, Douglas, it is the only one for which I could get a decent photo." It is nice when you find helpful locals, I have had similar experience on several occassions on my travels. People are often proud of their local trees and are happy to share their knowledge of the area.
