Thanks to Thomas for the above photograph of a Giant Redwood in Wimbledon. He says; "I think this might be a redwood. Recently it has gone brown in places. I have known this tree for ten years but never seen it like this. Any thoughts?" The tree is a Giant Redwood (Sequoiadendron giganteum, also known as Wellingtonia or Giant Sequoia). The occasional increase in the browning of the foliage is a common occurence which does not necessarily mean there is a problem. Contrary to popular belief, evergreen trees do in fact shed leaves, they just do it gradually during the year with perhaps a slight increase in Autumn, and I believe sometimes conditions cause the tree to look a little more brown than usual.
