Giant Sequoia - Autumn 2015
Thanks to Mike for sending us the above photograph of a Giant Sequoia in Westbury.
He says, "I recently moved to the town of Westbury in Wiltshire, which I've been delighted to find has a very fine Sequoiadendron giganteum in the middle of the town, on Edward St. by the town's War Memorial.

Mike has also grown his own Giant Sequoia from seed and was "I was lucky enough to be able to plant four of my trees in the grounds of Highcliffe castle. The gardening staff at the Castle were very encouraging & helpful, and I can report that the four trees are all doing very well. One in particular, near the entrance to the castle, is doing extremely well and is around 7ft. tall. It's got a lot of growing to do, but is off to a good start. I now have another set of baby Sequoias, 3 years old, and I'll be looking for good sites to plant them in the local area in due course."

Congratulations on growing your own Giant Sequoia from seed, many people write in and say they attempted and failed so it's an achievement to have done so well. It's great that you managed to plant them in Highcliffe castle, somewhere that are likely to look after them. Keep up the good work, you will soon have more youngsters to plant out!
