Coast Redwood - September 2022

Giant Redwood - September 2022
Christine sent these photographs of a Wellingtonia in Montrose.

She wrote; "The gardens are on the A935 from Brechin to Montrose and are barely 5 minutes drive, on the same road, from House of Dun. They are beautiful, solid, happy trees at House of Dun, the best I've seen in UK. This Wellingtonia at Langley Gardens is (in my non expert opinion) the same age as the Avenue of Wellingtonias just up the road, which were planted 1856. Langley Gardens also has a stately home; currently being renovated. We speculated that the stately-house-neighbours bought the trees from the same tree-distributor. There are many old trees in Langley Gardens. There is a large old Chestnut tree in front of the house, which a Heritage Tree expert went to measure and register."

Thank you Christine, you could well be right about the neighbours buying from the same distributor, I can't imagine there were many selling these at the time, and it's quite feasible to think that there may have been a sudden enthusiasm to acquire these trees.
