Giant Redwood 2008 |
Thanks to Stuart for the above photograph of one of three Giant Redwoods being planted on Tuesday 22 January 2008 by volunteers from Friends of West Park. Stuart says, "The tree shown is next to the nation cycle route 6. Two other Redwoods are planted either side of the childrens play area. The park contains an extensive native tree trail with the species marked on plinths." * * * Update - November 2014 * * * Stuart wrote to say, "The Redwood in the photograph died and the Derbyshire BSOC paid for a replacement which is growing well, estimate currently 16 feet high. The third also died but the second is making slow progress surrounded by other trees. My latest project just finished after 4 years!" Many thanks for updating me on these Redwoods. Sad to hear two have died, but I'm glad that one has been replaced. Perhaps the second one benefited from some shelter from the other trees. Congratulations on your sun dial project! |
