Grange-over-Sands - Holker Hall (Cumbria) |
Wellingtonia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) |
Three Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) |
Holker Hall is among the locations of several Redwoods in Cumbria for which Nick kindly sent us details. He says; "This specimen of a Wellingtonia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) is in the formal garden of Holker Hall. N 54° 11.353 W 002° 58.943" and "Three Coast Redwoods stand together in the park lands of Holker Hall. N 54° 11.476 W 002° 59.208" The only point I would make is that the shape of these three trees is more like that of a Giant Redwood than a Coast Redwood so if someone can verify this please contact us. * * * Update - April 2019 * * * |

Thanks to Brian who wrote to say "I found a photo of one of these 3 trees at Holker Hall with my Border Terrier Scout . Definitely not sempervirens." The photograph was taken last year and verifies my suspicions, these two types Redwoods can be confused unless you can get up close, as your Scout discovered! |
