Needham Market - Alder Carr Farm (Suffolk)

Giant Redwood - September 2023

These two young Giant redwood were planted in 2022 and are both situated in the car park of Alder Carr Farm shop. One has a little browning of the foliage, the other has quite a lot more (2023) but this isn't unusual for the first year or two after planting out these trees. Hopefully the next few years should see them flourish. The farm had a cafe but more importantly the farm shop sells a superb range of ice-cream produced on the farm. The Damson flavoured was particularly good!

Alder Carr Farm is near to Needham Lake and on the day of our first visit, two weed dredgers were engaged in a rather slow ballet across the water. There's a cafe and a children's playground, and rather unexpectedly we noticed there was an area with five barbecue sites roped off for the public to use, each with its own permanent barbecue installed.

We recommend a walk round the lake, and a trip through the old cattle tunnel under the railway line but mind your head!
