Giant Redwood and a Larch (to the right in its Autumn colours) - November 2011
Writtle College contains many varied specimen trees and most have labels giving their latin names.
The larger of the Giant Redwoods has numerous branches sweeping to the ground on one side where it is not crowded by other trees and it is one of the earliest added to this website.

Two of the Dawn Redwoods and two Swamp Cypress (on the left) in their Autumn colours - November 2011
The November 2011 picture of the Dawn Redwoods shows them in their very late Autumn colours, in fact they are in the process of dropping their leaves. By contrast, two adjacent large Swamp Cypress (which are often mistaken for Dawn Redwoods due to the similarity of the foliage) are at the peak of their Autumn colour and therefore quite vivid.

Two very young Coast Redwood - November 2011
Two very young Coast Redwood trees growing vigorously, one has two trunks at ground level and the other has quite a lean.

The young Blue Giant (Glaucum) - November 2011
Another younger Giant Redwood can be found in the same area as the larger, this one being of the variety Glaucum whose colour has a blue tint and was around two metres tall in 2011. Please click on the photograph to see the image in greater detail.
