Westcliffe-on-Sea - Prittlewell Chase (Essex)

Giant Redwood - July 2022

What a surprise! I was on my return home from Southend where I had ordered a part for my aging car, waiting at the junction of Gainsborough Drive and Prittlewell Chase, when I noticed this young Giant Redwood on central reservation of Prittlewell Chase. There have been quite a few more young trees of various types planted along the reservation which was good to see, but none as interesting as this fine sapling. Back at home I did a bit of googling and found this page on Facebook for Southend Street Trees and their post from 15th July 2021 states that there are three Giant Redwoods along this central reservation. There is also a Dawn Redwood not far from here, between Prince Avenue and the A127, just opposite Prince Avenue School, according to their Facebook page. Guess who will be looking out for the other Redwoods and stopping to measure them all when I return to collect the car part?!
