Thanks to Gareth for sending the location and photographs of three young Giant Redwoods in Uppermill, Lancashire, although Gareth says "some people might argue, West Yorkshire. (*see note below). The largest of the three is on the car park of Newbank Garden Centre in Uppermill, near Oldham, Lancashire and the other two are in Uppermill between the canal and the High Street. Can't believe I have been walking / driving past these trees for the past 7 years and never knew what they were!"

It is surprising how many people write to say that they have been interested in Giant Redwoods trees and yet did not realise that a regular journey took them fairly close to one. The Victorians planted a great many of these trees and so there are a fair number of quite large examples around one hundred years or so of age. The young ones, such as those shown in the photographs, are a good deal rarer because interest in planting these trees waned somewhat in the last century.

*We are keen not to attribute any tree to the wrong county so hopefully this link to the Saddleworth White Rose Society will clear up any confusion.
