Coast Redwood - April 2017
At the entrance to the car park at Symonds Yat Rock stand around 20-30 Coast Redwood.
They are growing among other types of trees but their distinctive reddish bark makes them stand out.
A very picturesque part of Britain, it was a fantastic view from the viewpoint even if a bit misty. After a short drive to the Saracen's Head Inn we caught the hand ferry across the River Wye which is operated by bar staff. It runs on request all year round, depending on the state of the river of course.
The duck also took the opportunity to cadge a lift.
After alighting from the ferry in Wales we turned left and walked three miles along the wooded banks of the river, crossing back into England using the wooden suspension bridge at Biblins. It was built by the Forestry Commission in 1957 and refurbished in 1997. The signs requests that no more than six people cross at one time, sound advice for those not wishing to get their feet wet.
