Of the five Wellingtonia in and around Southminster, this one at New Moor Farm, Cripplegate must take first prize. It has the classic shape of a relatively young Wellingtonia which has not been cramped by other trees, and has not been affected by lightning. This evening shot with the tree in silhouette against the dark sky shows the typically moderate density of the foliage, a surprising amount of light is able to pass through. This is of considerable help when trying to identify one from a distance, especially where the shape of the tree may be a little unusual due to damage or crowding. |
