Joshua announced that he had "a new finding to report! In Southampton, in the Old Cemetery. Confirmed Sequoiadendron giganteum. I did not get a photo of the foliage but I'm getting pretty good at identifying. Interestingly there is a Japanese cedar at the other end of the cemetery with the classic similar foliage but trunks are night and day. It can be seen on Google maps (50.9204640, -1.4142289) with the characteristic triangular shadow cast." That's great, thanks Joshua, it does become easier to spot them after a while, although I still make the occasional mistake until, as you say, making a closer inspection of the trunk for instance. The Japanese Cedar, as you found, is one that can give rise to a premature feeling of excitement when seen in the distance!
