Thanks to Miranda for emailing this picture of an avenue of Giant Redwood trees growing at Normanby Hall, near Scunthorpe. She says, "They gave me enormous pleasure for some 18 months when I was studying the RHS general certificate there. As they grow just outside the building where the course was taught, I saw them every week and developed a real affection for them. The first touch of the soft bark was quite a surprise; you expect it to be hard, not spongy." Miranda also tells us of another Redwood growing in Broughton woods, also near Scunthorpe, together with a Monkey Puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana, or Chilean Pine). |
