Thanks to Peter for sending this photograph of an avenue of young trees in Lancashire.

Peter says "I think I have found a grove of 31 young giant redwoods - planted either side of the riverside path along the bank of the river Irk in Chadderton Hall Park, Oldham, Lancashire. This grove was planted several years ago and they are now growing at staggering rate. These trees are becoming a really striking feature of the park - but I do worry that they have been planted too close together - most of them are only 20ft apart. Would appreciate your feedback as to whether they are indeed redwoods? I think they are - they have the soft spongy bark & the needles are very small & sharp."

The avenue of young trees that you found in Chadderton Hall Park are definitely Giant Redwood, well spotted.
You could be right, they are a little closer together than I would prefer, nevertheless it is a welcome sight to see such a rare collection of these trees planted in recent years.
