Giant Redwood August 2003

Giant Redwood May 2004
There are three Giant Redwood trees in the churchyard at St Mary & St Michael's of Mistley. As you can see from the pictures, two of them frame the entrance gate, and another two sit around the back of the church (one of which is shown above). These nice examples are worth a visit themselves, but in an adjacent graveyard there are various other trees, some with brightly coloured foliage, making an attractive scene out of what can often be a fairly sombre setting.

Fairly nearby is the Mistley Place Park animal rescue centre, a popular venue for those with children. In the woods in the grounds of the centre there is a Giant Redwood, but being quite cramped by other trees it has lost its lower branches so it is not possible to see its foliage.
