Inchture - Ballindean House (Perthshire)

Giant Redwood - January 2016

Thanks to Peggy for sending us the above photograph in January 2016. Peggy wrote; "I visited the Inchture Redwoods again, and then went to Ballindean House, one of the known locations of two Patrick Matthew redwoods. The great house was built in the 1800s, and is now a teen ranch with a Western theme. The staff directed me to one of the redwoods which is downhill from the house near the walled garden. The tree is magnificent with a profusion of cones around its base. What's interesting to me is to see which lichens, algae, woodpecker holes, etc. are found on the tree, an ecosystem all in itself."
