Thanks to Caroline for the above photographs of a Giant Redwood tree in Haslemere. Caroline says,"I thought I would take a picture of the tree but it is in fact in three parts. It seems to go on forever. The tree is believed to be about 100 years old plus. We have an arboretum here. It seems that no one has realised that this forest existed so I am now at the beginning of my research to discover how it was formed. Someone told me that the monks used to receive presents and this is possibly one of the first to arrive in the U.K. We have many unusual trees. Many yew trees also.

I'm afraid that is about all I can tell you but the Redwood is truly amazing and everyone comments on it. I renamed the house after the tree. It's been here a lot longer than the house I am sure of that. Anyway do let me know if there is any way of tracking or finding out how the Redwood and the other trees came about. There are little lead markers next to some of the trees with the name and a number. The gardener said these are easily more than 100 years old...barely readable.

I fully appreciate the difficulties of fitting a Giant Redwood into one decent-sized photograph!

I do not know of a method of finding out the history of your trees other than by searching the internet (or perhaps your local libraries or council's records office). It would be interesting to find out more and I do hope that someone may read this who is able to help in your research.
