The original Ashford Lodge was burnt down and it was replaced by the current building in 1926. The magnificent Giant Redwood in the grounds would have been quite young at that time, but would still have been a fairly substantial tree even then. The current owner is obviously fond of the tree because he has bought a young sapling, as shown in the second photograph. This is in a pot at the moment but when it is ready it will also be planted in the grounds. |
