At first glance you probably wouldn't be able to tell that this is one of those rare Giant Sequoia that has planted some of its lower branches into the ground, but the photographs below show some of the resulting tangles that form when they sprout upwards themselves. A fantastic tree to amuse and inspire your children when they have grown weary of the delights of yet another Oak or Chestnut.

Thanks to Ray for these fabulous photographs of a really intruiging tree. This doesn't happen very often unlike the Coast Redwood, the Giant Sequoia/Redwood does not propagate easily in this way so this effect is rarely seen. Ray's picture really brings out the prehistoric air of the mass of branches, you can almost imagine small dinosaurs wandering around the tree rather than children!

Of the many thousands of these trees I have seen on my travels, I have only found a handful of such examples.
For instance at Somerleyton Hall and Cambridge University Botanical Gardens.
