Thanks to Hannah for sending these photographs of redwoods she discovered in Leicestershire. Hannah wrote; "I am not sure how many there are exactly as some of the undergrowth in that area is quite thick and the canopy of other trees also obscures some of the view. However, I have seen at least 3 and will explore more next time I am walking in the area. These were in the Snibston Discovery Park area towards the fishing lakes (Between Coalville and Ravenstone in North West Leicestershire). The Discovery Park Museum no longer exists but the park land around is still accessible. My photo shows two of the trees and a third is in the same area. I had no means of measuring them and it is only possible to see the very top of one of the trees so height would be difficult to assess." It is always difficult to measure the heights in these conditions. The foliage and cone photograph is very helpful, it confirms the identity of the tree as definitely being a Sequoiadendron giganteum. |
