Thanks to Linda for providing the above photograph of a Redwood in the grounds of Chatsworth House. Linda says, "We went to Chatsworth and there was a Redwood tree. I expect you have already seen it but just in case we took a photo. We had trouble finding it (very long walk!) as it wasn't where the map said but I think I found the right one - the bark was all squidgy. It was difficult to get a good picture but the thought was there!

Linda was not sure whether the tree was a Giant Redwood Sequoiadendron giganteum or a Coast Redwood Sequoia sempervirens. From the picture the foliage looks as though it might be a Coast Redwood but the "squidgy bark" comment indicates it might be a Giant Redwood. Can anyone help us with the identification? A close-up photograph of the foliage would help us tell for certain.
Thanks to Kerry for sending photographs that confirm that there is definitely a Giant Redwood at Chatsworth, however, I have a feeling that there may be a Coast Redwood as well! The one in the photograph from Linda just has the look of a semperviren about it.
Thanks to Jan for the above photograph of Giant Redwoods on the Chatsworth Estate. A marvellous setting for two fine specimens.
