Thanks to Rob for the above photograph of a Giant Redwood on the American Garden Trail at Bletchley Park which he visited in August 2011. The tree stands in front of the mansion and was planted by the Leon family who owned Bletchley Park between 1883 and 1937. During the war an aerial was placed at the top of the tree to transmit radio signals for Station X. The Trail was opened in August 2004 and celebrates the links between the UK and the USA which started at Bletchley Park when it was used for the famous World War II codebreaking establishment. |
