Ashtead - Ralliwood Road (Surrey)

Thanks to Christopher who sent photographs and said "When we moved into our Surrey home some 10+ years ago, we inherited what we thought was a Californian Redwood in the rear garden. We were told by a neighbour that a previous owner had planted the tree many years ago! By coincidence, there are other redwoods in Ashtead (as listed on your site) and I have had the pleasure of looking at them 'in the flesh' when walking past!" Perhaps not such a coincidence Christopher, I have quite often found a Redwood tree and then spotted several other in the near vicinity. I believe it was when the Victorians were all rushing to adorn their gardens with the latest new plant to arrive with the Plant Hunters of that era. Perhaps when one person obtained a specimen in an area, their neighbours followed suit.
