This Coast Redwood was found by chance on a visit to the Cargate Picnic Area at the junction of the A303 (London-Exeter Trunk road) and A3088 (Yeovil spur).
Underneath is a plaque which reads;

Planted by
Edward Gladstone Hebditch
on 10th October 1988, to replace
one planted by him on 9th August
1902 to commemorate the
coronation of King Edward VII
but later destroyed.
If anyone has any information about the tree or about Edward Gladstone Hebditch we would be pleased to hear from you.

This is a very pleasant picnic area, it has toilets, tourist information office, snack bar and picnic tables.
