Thanks to Don for this set of photographs of "ten Redwoods in Grimsdyke Open space in Harrow Weald. Here is a link to the nearby Grim's Dyke Hotel website. The girth of one of trees just near the driveway of the hotel on the right is about 8 metres which surely would make it older than 150 years indicated in local history?" Eight metres girth (measured by Don in 2021) is certainly very impressive. The earliest that these trees were planted in the U.K. was around the 1850's, so 150-170 years seems about right. Given the right conditions they can grow really fast! |

Thanks to Peter who sent these excellent photographs in April 2022 and he wrote with some more details of the trees. ""There are two groups: one group of at least five trees is southwest of the hotel, next to the parking lot at the entrance. This is the group that Don photographed. The other group consisting of four trees is east of the hotel, behind the lawn. My pictures are of this group. There might be more. The former park is overgrown with shrubs and we didn't have much time." |
