Peter sent these photographs and wrote to say; "Using Forestry England's ‘Route for Redwoods’ maps, we found a few groves of Coast Redwoods in ‘Fire Wood’ in Oxfordshire, near the hamlet of Christmas Common. The what.3.words location for the largest grove is roving.fruitcake.workroom. Forestry England says these were planted in 1958, making them about 65 years old when we came across them at the end of 2022. We did spot a few other Coasts dotted around our walk through the wood though, and a few young saplings sprouting near the bases of the larger trees. " They're fairly big for 65 years old, they are doing really well, so must be on favourable ground. Having someone standing next to the trees really shows their size, and it's amazing to think that they are actually still very young specimens with a good deal more growing ahead. |
